While most parents know they should bring their children to the orthodontist for an evaluation, not all parents understand that this evaluation should first be done around the age of seven years old. The reason to bring them in early is to see if your child can benefit from two-phase orthodontic treatment.
Two-phase orthodontics are for kids who need to have early orthodontic intervention in addition to later treatment. The purpose is to notice problems with facial growth and structure early enough to avoid a more serious issue in the future. Two-phase orthodontic treatment consists of a first phase around the age of seven, and a second phase during pre-teen or teenage years.
Some signs that your child may need two-phase orthodontic treatment include speech impediments, breathing problems, and crooked or crowded teeth. If you need to make an appointment for your kids to receive an orthodontic evaluation, please call Lockett Orthodontics, our Briargate, Colorado, orthodontist’s office.
