What You Should Know About Bruxism

For those suffering from anxiety, stress, or certain types of sleep disorders, you may have bruxism and not even know it! Bruxism is defined as the grinding and clenching of the teeth, whether done subconsciously at night or during stressful times of the day. Because your jaws are so strong, bruxism can cause all sorts of damage to your teeth and mouth.

Symptoms Of Bruxism

It’s important that you know some of the signs to look out for, because the longer bruxism goes untreated, the worse the damage can eventually be!

While each case of bruxism is different, below are a few of the most common symptoms related to this disorder:

  • Frequent headaches, especially in the mornings
  • Chronic tooth pain with no apparent cause
  • Earaches with no sign of infection and no apparent cause
  • Teeth that begin to loosen or shift
  • Pain when opening the jaw or yawning
  • Clicking sounds in the jaw when opening the mouth or yawning
  • Gums that begin to recede

If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms of bruxism, it’s important to make sure you set up an appointment as soon as possible! Bruxism can eventually lead to severe jaw problems, the loss of teeth, and quite a bit of pain.
