Vacationing During Orthodontic Treatment

Family of fourIf you’re currently undergoing orthodontic treatment and are planning on taking a vacation or traveling for the holidays, there are a few things you can do to be prepared. While you’re out of town, there are a few things you should plan on taking with you. These items should include the following:

  • Orthodontic toothbrush
  • Fluoride toothpaste
  • Mouthwash
  • Floss, interdental brushes, or flosspick
  • Orthodontic wax to protect your mouth from protruding wires

You can purchase pre-made kits full of travel-sized versions of the above items, or you can put together your own kit

Foods to Avoid while Traveling

Below are a few food items to avoid eating while you’re out of town on vacation in order to prevent broken orthodontic wires or brackets:

  • Hard candies, pretzels, or cookies
  • Gummy, chewy, or sticky foods
  • Hard rolls or bagels
  • Corn on the cob
  • Nuts, such as almonds, peanuts, and cashews
  • Taking bites into whole fruits; instead, make sure fruit is pre-cut

For more tips on how to travel and maintain healthy orthodontics, please don’t hesitate to contact Lockett Orthodontics, located here in Parker, Colorado.
