The Process of Receiving Orthodontic Braces

Braces Brush FlossYou might be wondering what to expect from your first appointment to receive your dental braces! The fear of the unexpected can cause even more anxiety than you may already be feeling, so we’re here to take the mystery out of this appointment for you. From the consultation until the removal, read on to learn about the process of receiving your braces.

Steps of Receiving Orthodontic Braces

Consultation – Before you get your braces on, you’ll have a consultation with the orthodontist. This is when you’ll talk about your concerns and voice any questions you may have. Next, your teeth will be examined, and X-rays will be taken of your mouth. Once this has been done, your orthodontist will work with you to create a treatment plan.

Getting Braces – The next step is finally getting fitted for your braces. During the time you have your braces on (which will vary depending on your situation), you’ll have an appointment at our office every 8-10 weeks to make sure all is well. These visits will also include having the braces adjusted so they’ll help achieve your desired results.

When the Braces Come Off – After the braces come off, you’ll still need to be seen here for a few follow-up appointments to make sure your teeth aren’t shifting. You’ll also be fitted for a dental retainer. This retainer will need to be worn daily for a set amount of time to prevent your teeth from becoming misaligned.

Receiving braces can positively impact all aspects of your life. Braces can boost confidence in your smile, improving both your personal and professional life. If you’re ready to talk about the possibility of receiving braces, please don’t hesitate to contact Lockett Orthodontics here in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
