Maintaining Dental Hygiene on Vacation

Couple on a beachIt’s summer, and many families choose this time to go on vacation! But just because you’re taking a break from work, school, and other responsibilities, doesn’t mean you can take a break from your oral health routine! In fact, the changes in diet and routine that occur during vacations make it all the more important to stay on top of your dental health.

Healthy Teeth While on Vacation

Below are a few ways for you to maintain your health, beautiful smile during your summer vacation:

  • Visit the dentist first – Before you head off on your vacation, it’s a good idea to visit your general dentist to make sure your teeth are healthy. Make sure your dental appointments are scheduled before you leave on vacation. Nothing can ruin a fun trip quite like a toothache!
  • Put together a travel bag – Travel sizes are your best friend when it comes to dental hygiene on the go! Put together a dental hygiene travel bag that includes a toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, floss, and even travel-sized mouthwash.
  • Stick to your routine – After a long day of summer vacation fun, it’s tempting to just fall into bed without following your usual dental routine. However, neglecting your dental health during a vacation can lead to more problems later on. Make sure you’re still brushing and flossing every day during your trip.
  • Be mindful of your diet – Lastly, sugary drinks and snacks can abound during vacations! We aren’t suggesting that you forego all the delicious vacation food, but make sure you’re aware of the extra sugar you’re consuming and brush after especially sugary meals.

Here at Lockett Orthodontics, we want you to have a healthy and fun summer vacation! To make an appointment at our office, please contact our Colorado Springs, Colorado family orthodontics office today.
