The Importance Of Dental Checkups

Dental Check Ups

Every dentist will agree that at-home oral hygiene is absolutely essential to your dental health. Neglecting your oral hygiene can actually lead to heart disease, diabetes, and strokes, which means that caring for your teeth is also important to your overall health as well. However, in addition to brushing twice a day, flossing at least once a day, and using mouthwash, it’s also vital that you visit the dentist at least every six months for a checkup.

Why Dental Exams Are So Important

Below are a few important reasons to be vigilant about your dental checkups:

  • Cancer Detection – Every dental checkup includes a cancer screening. Catching oral cancer early is important to improving the prognosis if you are diagnosed.
  • Oral Health Maintenance – Vising the dentist regularly will allow your dentist and hygienists to catch any issues early on, when they’re simpler to treat. They will also be able to compare your checkups with previous visits to detect even small changes.
  • Preventing Gum Disease – Gum disease occurs when oral hygiene is neglected. If plaque is allowed to sit on the gums for long periods of time, it can cause bone loss, resulting in the eventual loss of your teeth. Dental cleanings are important to removing this harmful plaque.
  • Boosting Confidence – Having a beautiful and healthy smile will go a long way towards improving self-esteem. Receiving regular dental cleanings and checkups can help you to achieve and then maintain a gorgeous smile!

Because of the link between oral hygiene and overall health, it’s more important than ever to spend time focusing on your dental health. To make an appointment at our office, please contact Lockett Orthodontics. We’re located in Colorado Springs, CO.
