Good Candidates for Invisalign

Invisalign retainers with woman in the backgroundIf you’ve been doing research about orthodontic treatment, chances are that you’ve come across Invisalign. Many of our patients are drawn to the Invisalign option because they’re so much less obvious than traditional metal braces, and they can be removed for eating and brushing.

Are You a Candidate for Invisalign?

However, Invisalign is not an option for everyone. Below are a few things you need to consider before deciding if Invisalign is right for you.

  • Your orthodontic needs – Only certain types of tooth movements can be made with the help of Invisalign. If you need major tooth movements, bridge and crown work, or if you have problems with your jaw and bone structure, Invisalign may not be an option for you.
  • Your age – Invisalign is primarily made for adults or older teenagers who have already lost all of their baby teeth and whose second molars have grown in. Children or young teens wouldn’t make good candidates for Invisalign.
  • Your motivation – You’ll need to wear your Invisalign aligners for around 20-22 hours each day. Make sure you ask yourself if you’re responsible enough to make sure you’re wearing them correctly and that you won’t lose them. Be realistic about your abilities and let us know of any concerns you may have.
  • Your budget – Invisalign treatment may be more expensive than traditional metal braces. However, each financial situation and insurance plan is different, so please speak with our office before making a decision based on finances.

Here at Lockett Orthodontics, we’re here to help you make the decision regarding what type of orthodontic treatment is right for you.
