Crooked Teeth Causes

Woman questioningAccording to the American Association of Orthodontics, around 70% of adults are unhappy with their smile and teeth. Additionally, it’s been found that crooked or unhealthy teeth are one of the largest turn-offs for men and women in the U.S. Because of this, it’s obvious to say that confidence in one’s smile is more important than ever.

Crooked Teeth Causes

If you’re one of the many people who suffer from crooked teeth, you may wonder the reasons why. Genetics play a role in most cases of crooked teeth, but there are also outside reasons as well. For example, losing a tooth and not having a restoration put in can cause the teeth to shift into the unoccupied space. Sucking your thumb as a child has also been shown to contribute to crooked adult teeth. Lastly, airway issues also have an impact on how the mouth and jaws develop. These three factors (genetics, bad habits, and airway problems) are the most common causes of crooked teeth in adulthood.

If you would like to increase your confidence in your smile, you’ll find that there are a number of ways this can be accomplished. While orthodontic treatment in adults may take a little longer, there are now a number of orthodontic options that are much less obvious. We have clear braces, Invisalign trays, and many other options.
