Benefits Of Electric Toothbrushes

Electric Toothbrushes At Lockett Orthodontics, we’re fans of anything that will help you keep your teeth clean during your orthodontic treatment. Electric toothbrushes are definitely on the list! We know that electric brushes cost a bit more up front and their batteries require charging, but we still think the pros outweigh the cons.

Benefits Of Electric Toothbrushes

Below are a few of the great benefits an electric toothbrush can offer:

  • Clean more effectively – The average adult using a manual toothbrush will brush around 300 strokes each minute. With an electric toothbrush, this number jumps to between 7,000 and 10,000 strokes per minute. This means that you’ll be more successful in removing plaque and bacteria from your teeth in the same amount of time that you normally brush.
  • Apply the right amount of pressure – Brushing too vigorously can cause damage to the tooth enamel or the gum tissue. However, many people believe that the harder they brush, the cleaner their teeth will be. This is simply not the case. With an electric toothbrush, you’re more likely to apply the gentle pressure needed to clean your teeth without causing damage.
  • Ease of use for all ages – Kids who are just learning how to brush can sometimes struggle, especially when trying to reach their back teeth. Additionally, those suffering from arthritis can have difficulty applying the right amount of pressure at the right angles. Fortunately, an electric toothbrush can be a solution to both of these problems. An electric toothbrush will allow small children or those with arthritis to brush their teeth without putting a strain on wrists or fingers.

We don’t mind what kind of toothbrush you use, as long as you’re making sure to brush at least twice a day for two minutes at a time. It’s also important to floss and use mouthwash once a day as well.
