Being Thankful For Teeth This Thanksgiving

Family sitting together outside in yellow leavesThanksgiving is right around the corner and here at Lockett Orthodontics, we’re thankful for our teeth and all they do for us. Most of us will care for our teeth every day, by brushing and flossing, and trying to eat healthy, but how often do we stop to think about all our teeth do for us each day?

4 Reasons to be Grateful for Your Teeth

Below are just a few of the many reasons to be thankful for your beautiful smile this Thanksgiving holiday:

  • They work hard – Your teeth help you to speak, smile, and chew. In fact, the average chewing rate is 10 times per bite. This means that if you’re eating three meals a day, your teeth are chewing around 30,000 times.
  • They contribute to overall health – As long as you’re taking proper care of your pearly whites, they will help you take care of your overall health. It’s been shown that people who have healthy teeth are also less likely to suffer from heart disease, stroke, or diabetes.
  • They’re low maintenance – When you think about it, your teeth really only require around 10 minutes of care in a 24 hour period to brush and floss properly. In addition to this, you only need to visit the dentist every 6 months!
  • They allow us to smile – Lastly, our teeth allow us to show happiness and joy by smiling. Studies have shown that smiling (even if you don’t feel happy) can decrease stress and release endorphins.

The best way for you to show your teeth how thankful you are for them is to make sure you take the best care of them. This means brushing at least twice a day for two minutes at a time, flossing each day, and visiting your general dentist every six months for a dental cleaning and a checkup.
