6 Fun Ways To Celebrate National Dog Day!

Most of us probably pamper our sweet pups every day of the year, but August 26th is National Dog Day, giving us an opportunity to do something even more special for man’s best friend!

Below are 6 great ways to celebrate National Dog Day this year:

  • Volunteer at your local animal shelter. This can include walking the dogs or cleaning cages. If you don’t have the time to volunteer, consider donating dog food, toys, a few blankets, or even $5.
  • Pamper your pet! National Dog Day is a great excuse to take your favorite furry friend to the groomer for a bath, a nail clipping, and even a teeth brushing!
  • Take your dog for a swim. It’s been a hot summer, and we’re sure your pup would appreciate cooling off in the water! A lake, a backyard kiddie pool or even running through the sprinklers can provide hours of entertainment for both you and your pet!
  • Make a dog-friendly treat! There are tons of recipes online for homemade dog biscuits and pupsicles! This is another great way for your dog to cool off during the hot summer months.
  • Teach your dog a new skill or trick, or practice any old ones that may have been forgotten. Learning to master the high five or simply brushing up on their sit and stay commands will help keep your dog’s mind sharp. Make sure you offer some training treats!
  • Get your dog a checkup. National Dog Day can serve as a great reminder to take your dog in for his or her yearly exam! Make sure your dog’s ID tag and microchip are kept up-to-date with any phone number or address changes and stock up on heartworm and flea or tick medications for the year.

It’s important to keep your dog healthy and safe to ensure many more National Dog Day celebrations in the future!
